cake...

On the bank holiday Monday, I did a fair bit of revision. Although, what started off as a relatively productive day, turned into a day of baking an extravagantly rich chocolate cake. I followed the recipe to an extent, but adapted it, to suit what we had in the cupboards. We had eggs to use up, which was a start. We also had 4 half open bags of cooking chocolate, 2 of which were milk chocolate, one dark, and one extra rich chocolate shavings. All this chocolate amounted to well over 300g, and all of it went into the chocolate cake in some form of another. The recipe required a lot of ground almonds, which was one thing we didn't have. So I had a lot of fun putting all the whole almonds I could find into the food processor and completely clogging it up :D. There still weren't enough almonds, so I decided to put cherries on top of the cake, even though these two ingredients were in no way connected. I was in a weird mood, I put anything and everything I found in that cake. Because I used a lot of chocolate, I decided to be healthy and use wholemeal flour. Unfortunately, I couldn't use polyunsaturated margarine because the fat needed to be melted along with the chocolate, so I had to settle for good old butter, with its ridiculous amounts of saturated fats. But at least I used wholemeal. Once the cake was out of the oven, I decided to coat it in yet more chocolate, except to make it healthier, I added some sour cream, which is a dairy product. I just hope its calcium content was quite high, as I only used two tablespoons - I am not particularly fond of sour cream. Once the cake was coated, I went in search for cherries. I found a tub, but all the cherries were coated in that horrible syrup stuff. Once I had covered the cake with the entire contents of the tub, I realised that the syrup stuff, was in fact syrup. And I, in a good deed to be healthy, had just smothered the cake in vast amounts of liquid sugar. With the cake now baked, iced and coated in cherries, I can conclude:

"Yes, I may have used a lot of chocolate. And yes it is dripping in what seems like gallons of liquid sugar. And yes, it is ridiculously high in saturated fats. But at least I used wholemeal!"

Macbeth

Apologies again for the late post. On Sunday, I went to London with my family. We seem to go to London a fair bit now, and I am relatively competent with navigating myself round the buses and the underground. Unlike our usual trips to London, we didn't go shopping. I didn't even step foot on Oxford Street, nor Regent Street. Instead we met my Uncle and saw Macbeth at the Globe theatre. I understood most of it. Although I do wish that I had read the synopsis BEFORE the seeing the play. We didn't get back until very late, so that is my excuse for not posting on the Sunday. I also have a fairly decent excuse for not posting on Monday, which will be touched on in more detail in in my next post, which I promise will come very shortly.
